Fellow graduates of SOM,

As we begin another year of service and welcome new board members, this is an opportune moment to remind ourselves of our mission, primary activities and priorities.

Our mission guides all of our initiatives and is included in each of our external communications:

The Yale SOM Alumni Association exists to be a voice for alumni and to promote a lifelong community of personal, professional and intellectual connections among alumni and to the school. We work to strengthen connections within the Yale community, in local communities, across management fields, and across sectors.

To serve the needs of SOM’s almost 5,000 alumni we engage in a range of activities:

  • Facilitate communication among SOM alumni, students, faculty and administration
  • Facilitate the development of regional networks and support their operation
  • Operate a mentor program that links alumni and current students
  • Fund alumni and student events that support our mission
  • Maintain a web site as a central source of alumni information and resources
  • Support the mission of SOM

Last year we focused on a short list of priorities to achieve our mission:

  • Expanded the mentor program to 1st year students
  • Targeted 3 regional chapters to take them to "the next level"
  • Tapped into alumni for advice on improving placement results

Over the coming year we will build on each of those initiatives. In addition, we will be working on “SOMAA 2.0”, where we will take an in-depth look at how SOMAA operates and how we can strengthen our collaboration with SOM.

I encourage you to get involved in SOMAA and actively participate in our dynamic alumni community.

Regards,
Fred Smagorinsky
