Yale SOMAA
What is the Yale SOM Alumni Association?
The Yale SOM Alumni Association (SOMAA) exists to be a voice for alumni and to promote a lifelong community of personal, professional and intellectual connections among alumni and to the school. We work to strengthen connections within the Yale community, in local communities, across management fields, and across sectors.
What does that mean?
It means there’s a team of volunteers who serve as your:
- Eyes and ears, keeping you abreast of significant developments at Yale SOM;
- Voice, making sure alumni perspectives and concerns are included in discussions with administration and faculty decision makers; and
- Hands, helping to organize and finance Student Interest Groups (SIGs) and other student and alumni activities.
In addition, we serve as a “direct action clearinghouse” that connects interested alumni with opportunities to work with SIGs, Faculty, Admissions, and the Career Development Office (CDO).
How about some specific examples?
- Worked directly with the CDO to aid in the placement of summer interns and recent graduates during the recent market downturn and correlating difficult job market;
- Began working directly with the CDO to create new, higher-impact roles for alumni who want to help students and alumni in furthering their career ambitions;
- Instituted a program of alumni contacts for admitted applicants;
- Extended the Yale SOM Global Alumni Network from a handful of cities to networks in many of the nation’s and world’s larger metro areas;
- Started and sponsored regional chapter events featuring Yale SOM faculty;
- Launched an expanded and redesigned Alumni Association web site;
- Provided direct financial support for numerous alumni and student activities and events.
- Developed online Board nominations and voting system at significant cost savings to Yale SOM and the SOMAA Board.
